In March 2007, the Texas Attorney General released an opinion that municipalities in Texas can adopt ordinances that regulate the residency requirements of convicted sex offenders. In April 2007, the University Park City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits registered sex offenders involving a violation with a victim who was a minor, from living within 2,000 feet of a school, park, playground, daycare center, or other places where children congregate.
Under Texas Law, those convicted of certain sex offenses must register with the law enforcement agency where they reside.
