Centennial Celebration Committees

The City of University Park was incorporated on April 12, 1924. In April 2024, the City of University Park celebrated its 100th anniversary. To help celebrate this milestone, two committees were appointed by City Council in March 2023 so that residents can help provide input and assistance with Centennial Celebration activities. Activities included historical displays and programs, community events, youth activities, and marketing of this milestone.  

The Legacy Advisory Group helped identify historical resources with the community, plan education programs and exhibits as well as identified a legacy project to commemorate the Centennial. The Planning/Action Group helped plan and assist staff in the execution of Centennial Celebration activities. They also worked with HPISD on activities to help engage youth in this Centennial Celebration as well working on the marketing and promotion of this anniversary.

Beginning work in Spring 2023, both committees worked in a collaborative fashion and concluded their responsibilities in May 2024. City staff assisted both committees with their activities.
