Objective

The Board of Adjustment is a statutory body comprised of five regular members and four alternate members. It is a quasi-judicial body with jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals of determinations made by the Building Official, special exceptions to the terms of the Zoning Ordinance and special exceptions to the terms of the Sign Ordinance. All meetings are open public hearings.

Make a Request

The Board holds public hearings to consider requests for variances to the University Park Zoning Ordinance and appeals to decisions made by the Community Development Department.

All requests to be heard by the Board must be accompanied by the following:

  • A completed Board of Adjustment Application (PDF)
  • Electronic version of complete set of plans; content and type of plans will be determined by staff after preliminary project review
  • $500 filing fee

Once the application and submittal have been determined to be in accordance with City requirements, the request will be placed on the next available Board of Adjustment Agenda and an advertisement of public hearing will be made. Ten (10) printed copies of the approved application submittal, along with an electronic version of any presentation items must be received by the Community Development Department by noon on the Monday that is eight (8) days prior to the Board of Adjustment meeting at which the case will be heard. For printed copies, please be sure that any sheets containing plans are at least 11x17 inches for readability.

Applications must be received at least 30 days prior to the meeting date. For more information about submittal requirements and deadlines, contact Community Development at 214-987-5411.
