Permits

General Commercial Construction

Permits are required on all commercial construction that involves fire alarm or fire suppression equipment regardless of work scope.

All fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems plans must be in digital format and turned in with the building plans when requesting a permit. 

General Residential Construction

Permits are required on all residential construction that involves fire alarm or fire suppression equipment regardless of work scope.

All fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems plans must be in digital format and turned in with the building plans when requesting a permit. 

***Standalone fire alarm or fire suppression permit requests, whether commercial or residential and not related to large construction projects must call (214) 987-5398 to start the permit process. 

Submitting Fire Plans

All fire plans must be submitted electronically on MyGov by the general contractor unless a standalone permit is being requested. 

Collaborator Request 

Trade contractor must be registered as a collaborator with the city of University Park for your specific credential. Register in MyGov for Collaborator Registration.

Fire Sprinkler, Fire Alarm, Kitchen Hood Exhaust Systems, Hood Suppression Systems, Tent, Fireworks, Emergency Responder Radio Systems, Stages and Platforms, Temporary Generators and miscellaneous fire

Schedule an Inspection

For questions or to schedule an inspection you must contact Fire Department Administrative Coordinator, Phyllis Mahan at 214-987-5380.

ONLY the trade sub-contractors can schedule their inspections, not the general contractor. If scheduled on MyGov the University Park Fire Department will not know of the scheduled inspection. You must call to schedule.

Tents

Permits are also required for a tent larger than 400 square feet (i.e. special events, carnivals, business promotions). The city will collect a $100 fee for each tent permitted. 

Tents are any temporary membrane structure or canopy.

Permit Requirements: 

  1.  Driver’s License/Photo ID (Mandatory) 
  2.  1 application 
  3.  1 site plan 
  4.  1 fire retardant certificate from the tent manufacturer

Tent permits can be obtained through MyGov or contact Phyllis Mahan at 214-987-5380.

Stages, Platforms and Bleachers

Permits are required for stages, platforms and bleachers greater than 30 inches in height. Additional safety measures are also required and will be inspected prior to use. The city will collect a $100 fee for permit.

Permit Requirements: 

  1. Driver’s License/Photo ID (Mandatory)  
  2. 1 application 
  3. 1 site plan 
  4. 1 Stage/Bleacher assembly specifications.

Temporary Generators

Permits are also required for each temporary generator 10KW or greater. The city will collect a $100 fee for each generator permitted. 

Temporary generator permits can be obtained through MyGov or contacting Phyllis Mahan at 214-987-5380. 

Permit Requirements: 

  1. Driver’s License/Photo ID (Mandatory) 
  2.  1 application 
  3. 1 site plan with grounding rod location 
  4. 1 generator specifications
