Upcoming Seasonal Events

October 12, 2020

Although COVID-19 precautions will result in some alterations in the City's usual slate of holiday events, we have some exciting community activities in the works for October, November and December. Below you will find a list of City-backed efforts focused on holiday fun and enjoyment including dates, times and details!

COVID-19 Advisory: Please note that the presentation of each of these events is subject to evolving State and County orders and guidelines. These events could be canceled at any time due to community health concerns.

Halloween Guidance

Dallas County has released a guide for Halloween and related activities. The guide contains a list of activities that are not recommended by health officials, and also lists some safe recommended activities to protect your health and the health of others. Click here to view the full guide.

Boo Buckets by UPPL

Since our relocation to Preston Center Plaza in 2013, the library has enjoyed sharing a fun, family-friendly Halloween party with our residents. This year, because it’s a necessity for good health to remain socially distanced, we’ve had to change our plans and we will not be hosting an onsite celebration.  In lieu of a party, we are providing limited edition Boo Buckets so families can have a fun Halloween experience in the safety of their own homes! Each bucket includes an assortment of goodies, such as creature masks, activity books, toys and more! Each bucket costs $8. Payment in the form of a credit or debit card will be accepted at our service desk.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Do you think you have the best decorated pumpkin? Enter our Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Submit your photos to media@uptexas.org from October 12 through October 25.  The most liked photo will win!  Voting will take place on the City's Facebook account from October 26 through October 29. The winner, announced on October 30, will win a special Halloween prize. Stay tuned for more details!

Eggtober - October 31 - Event is full and registration is now closed
Like many occasions this year, Halloween may look a little different for your family. Let the Parks Department help! This year, the University Park Parks Department will fill a dozen Halloween eggs per child, and personally hide them in your front yard on October 31. Please register your family with the Parks Department. There is limited availability.

The eggs will be filled with peanut allergy-friendly candy and toys. Emails will be sent out before the delivery date with further details.

Drive-in Movies - November 7
Forget movies in the park, we're taking movies to the parking lot! Come watch Toy Story 4 at the parking lot across from Burleson Park. The parking lot will open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. This event is open to University Park residents only. Reservations are required. Limited to the first 75 vehicles registered.

Snider Plaza Tree Lighting - Sunday, November 22
The Snider Plaza Tree Lighting will look a little different this year, but have no fear, the tree will still be here!  In the interest of public health, due to the approaching Thanksgiving holiday, and continued limitations on the size of public gatherings due to COVID-19, this year's annual Holiday Tree Lighting festivities in Snider Plaza will take place virtually.

We all hope you and your family members will watch our virtual broadcast, and that before we light the tree, you will take a few minutes to drive through Snider Plaza to participate in our Toy Drive benefiting the Salvation Army.

  • Drive through toy donation 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Wave at the UPFD Fire Engine with Santa onboard
  • Taped performance of holiday songs by HPISD's Lads and Lassies
  • Virtual broadcast begins at 5 p.m.
  • Lighting of the Holiday Tree at 6 p.m. following a countdown by Mayor Stewart
Sponsors:  Rotary Club of Park Cities, Salvation Army and the University Park Park and Recreation Department

Santa Around Town - December 14 through December 18
While his elves are back at the North Pole making sure his sleigh is ready for the big night, Santa Claus will tour the streets of University Park on a UPFD fire engine.

Starting Monday, December 14 and continuing each night through Friday, December 18, Santa will ride through a different section of University Park spreading holiday cheer. The fun begins each night at 6 p.m. and ends each night about 8 p.m.

Dates/times subject to emergency calls. Stay tuned for a map and a link to the Santa Tracker as it gets closer!
