SMU 2020 fall semester schedule

August 13, 2020

SMU students will soon return to campus.

August 17-20, Monday-Thursday: New students with a scheduled move in time
August 20-23, Thursday-Sunday: Returning students with a scheduled move in time

COVID-19 precautions

  • SMU is requiring that everyone on the SMU campus wear a face covering over the mouth and nose in all public indoor spaces
  • This requirement—in accordance with the latest local ordinance—includes classrooms; building entrances and exits; lobbies and lounges; as well as in hallways, stairwells, restrooms and elevators
  • Face coverings are not required outdoors, in private spaces such as inside an office or partitioned cubicle for employees, or inside an individual residence hall room for students

The University will provide, as available, isolation quarters for students living on campus should they contract COVID-19. Students exposed to the virus, as identified by contact tracers, will also be provided quarantine quarters as available.  All members of the SMU community will be included in a Contract Tracing Program to identify individuals who may have been in close contact with a confirmed positive case.

Fall Semester schedule

The University has modified their schedule to reduce the number of students returning to campus after holiday travel and lessen the chance of contagion.  Fall classes will start on campus Monday, August 24, as originally scheduled.  However, students will not break for the September 7 Labor Day holiday or take a fall break.  This will allow students to complete their on-campus studies and leave campus housing prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Classes will shift to online-only for the remaining class days after Thanksgiving, and all final exams for the fall 2020 semester will be administered online.
