2020 Census Information

March 29, 2020

The 2020 Census counts every person living in the 50 states, District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. The count is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency.

The census provides critical data that lawmakers, business owners, teachers, and many others use to provide daily services, products, and support for you and your community. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data.

Invitations to respond to the 2020 Census will be delivered between March 12-20. Each home will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire. Once you receive that invitation, you can respond online, by phone, or by mail.

April 1 is Census Day! Census packets have been sent out and you should have received yours in the mail! Since you are spending more time at home, now is a great time to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail!

COVID-19 Operational Adjustments

Some of the 2020 Census operations have been delayed due to COVID-19. Click here for a list of operational adjustments that the Census Bureau has created during these times.

Here is a list of noteworthy Census dates that have been delayed -

  • The self response phase has been extended through August 14
  • Census takers will interview households in person that have not responded online, by phone, or by mail from May 28 - August 14
