Two suspects in custody following carjacking

June 14, 2019

Two suspects are in custody following a carjack incident that occurred on Thursday June 13.

Incident Details:

At approximately 6:45 Thursday morning, suspect one, a young Hispanic male, approached a ride-share driver who was parked on the Hillcrest side of Caruth Park at 7800 Hillcrest.  The suspect asked if he could use the driver’s cell phone.  When the driver declined, the suspect pointed a handgun at him and told the driver to exit the vehicle and leave his keys and cell phone inside.  The suspect then fled northbound in the victim’s vehicle.  The first suspect was followed by an accomplice who was driving a black Lexus SUV.  Soon after the carjacking, the victim, who was not injured during his exit from the vehicle, placed a 911 call to police.  The call was received by Dallas 911.  Their dispatch center quickly relayed incident details to the University Park Police Department.

By noon on Thursday, working jointly, detectives from the Dallas Police Department and University Park Police Department had apprehended both suspects and recovered both the ride-share vehicle and the Lexus SUV.  In addition, detectives were also able to recover the victim’s cell phone, and the handgun that was used in the carjacking.

The juvenile suspect was taken to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center.  The other suspect, 18-year-old John Adrian Garcia was taken to Lew Sterrett Dallas County Jail.
