UPPD - 2014 crime statistics

June 1, 2015
Burglaries of Motor Vehicles most reported crime in 2014
University Park remains a very safe place to live and work.  In 2014 the top reported crime was Burglaries of Motor Vehicles.  The majority of the 106 incidents involved items that were taken because they were left in plain sight.  Wallets, purses, computer laptops and jewelry were common targets.

Safety precautions & resident involvement

The police department urges residents to lock their vehicles and place valuables in the trunk.  It’s also a good idea to keep all household doors locked, even when home.  UPPD appreciates all those who continue to quickly report suspicious activity.

UPPD - Free home security inspections

If you would like a UPPD officer to come to your home and conduct a free security screening, call the department’s crime prevention officer at 214-987-5374.  During the visit the officer will check locks on doors and windows, alarm components, landscaping and provide additional information on general home security.  You  may also want to check with your insurance provider. Some insurance companies provide discounts once a home security survey has been completed.

Calls for service

In 2014 the police department answered 24,106 calls for service.  That total represents a slight decease from the year before.
