The Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for issuing fire permits (alarms/sprinklers/tents) and conducting annual commercial fire inspections. The Fire Marshal also investigates the cause, origin, and circumstances of every fire occurring within the city. In addition, the Fire Marshal's Office works closely with local schools to implement Risk Watch, a curriculum developed by the National Fire Protection Association. All fire plans must be submitted electronically to Marty Corn and Phyllis Mahan.

Permits are required on all commercial construction that involves fire alarm or fire suppression equipment. To obtain a permit, contact Phyllis Mahan at 214-987-5380.
Permits are also required for a tent larger than 400 sq. ft. (i.e. – special events, carnivals, business promotions). The City will collect a $50 fee for each permit. Tents are any temporary membrane structure or canopy.

Fire inspections of commercial businesses are conducted twice a year. The City will collect a $50 fee for the second re-inspection and a $100 fee for the third re-inspection. Home inspections are also available at the resident’s request. If you would like to request that an inspection be conducted at your home, please contact Fire Department Administrative Assistant, Phyllis Mahan at . She will schedule an appointment for an inspector to come to your residence.
