Nominate a deserving resident for Citizen of the Year

The University Park City Council announces a new award to recognize residents who make University Park a better place to live, work and play.

The City Council initiated the Citizen of the Year Award to heighten awareness of the many residents who work to better the city.  The award is designed to promote the understanding that the strength of the community is dependent upon a network of residents who voluntarily make the effort and take the necessary time to improve the quality of life in University Park.  Often these citizens neither expect nor receive proper recognition for their efforts to protect our environment, provide opportunities for youth, fundraise, or perform many other actions exemplifying good citizenship.  The City Council has established this award as a way of thanking citizens in our community. The award is open to residents of all ages.

The recipient of the award and their family will have the opportunity to ride with the University Park City Council in the Fourth of July parade on July 4th and will be recognized by Mayor Holmes at the Goar Park gazebo following the parade.  The Citizen of the Year will also be recognized at the July 5th Council Meeting at City Hall.  The recipient will be presented with a plaque and special Citizen of the Year gift.

To nominate a University Park resident for this award, go to the City website at and click on the Citizen of the Year information on the homepage, or call 214-363-1644 to request an application.  Once complete, please fax to 214-987-5399 or mail to the City of University Park, Attention: Kate Smith, 3800 University Blvd., University Park, TX 75205.

All applications must be received by June 3, 2005.  The Citizen of the Year will be notified the week of June 20th.
