UPPD adds motorcycles to traffic unit

February 10, 2017

The City Council has approved the purchase of two 2017 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles for police department use.  The motorcycles will make it possible for officers to do traffic enforcement and other patrol tasks in locations like Hillcrest Avenue and Preston Road, where there is little parking and a lot of congestion.  Two current officers, assigned to the department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, will undergo motorcycle training before the bikes are placed in service.  The motorcycles will be delivered in about two months.  Purchased in place of a new Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle, the price tag for the two bikes is $48,982.
