Demolition of UP Elementary School is underway - See Below

Over the next 18 months there will be several construction projects in the Park Cities.  As the map below indicates, many of the projects will involve Highland Park Independent School District campuses.  Others projects are located on major arterial streets including Hillcrest Avenue and Preston Road.  From time to time, these project are likely to create traffic issues.  The City will be doing its utmost to inform you, in a timely manner, of things you need to know through our social media platforms.  The City will also be collaborating with the Highland Park Independent School District, the Town of Highland Park and Southern Methodist University on the distribution of construction-related information.

Highland Park ISD Projects

University Park Elementary School Rebuild - Summer 2017 - August 2018

Demolition of UP Elementary is currently underway.  Trucks are expected to enter and exit the site from Lovers Lane.

- Please be aware of trucks entering and exiting the construction site 
- Flagmen and traffic control signage will be in place to assist with truck and traffic flow

Weather permitting, demolition should be complete by August 5. Following demolition, construction of the new UP Elementary building will begin. Anticipated project completion is August 2018.

Town of Highland Park Projects

       

Holmes Aquatic Center -- September 2017 to May 2018

Following budgetary approval, improvements to the City's Holmes Aquatic Center (HAC) is slated to begin this fall. Renovations include new buildings, an updated concessions area, a first aid station, family-style restrooms, meeting rooms, an updated mechanical and pump room equipment. The renderings below show how the new buildings will look once completed. If City Council approves funding, construction is scheduled to be complete in time for the 2018 pool season.

HPUMC Tolleson Family Activity Center -- Spring 2017 to Fall 2018

Demolition of the existing building has been completed, and excavation for the new facility is now underway. Part of the Highland Park United Methodist Church complex, this new facility in the current location of the Biggers Building at 5817 Hillcrest, will include two levels of underground parking and three floors of program space that will house Special Needs, Youth, and Recreation Ministries. In addition to a new gymnasium, the project will provide additional worship spaces, classrooms, dedicated sensory and motor skills spaces, and a teaching kitchen.

Park Plaza -- Summer 2017 to Fall 2018

The Park Plaza project involves the demolition of the former Chase Bank building on the corner of Hillcrest and Daniel and the construction of a mixed-use development, featuring office space, retail shops and restaurants. 

  • Demolition of the former Chase Bank Building will begin on Week of June 19.  The parking lot to the west of the building will be closed to the public beginning Tuesday, June 13.  The demolition process is expected to take eight weeks.

Mile-Per-Year Project - Alley 4200 Block of Amherst/Stanford -- March 2017 to August 2017

 The City is replacing aging water and sanitary sewer mains and alley pavement in the Amherst/Stanford alley between Westchester and Douglas. Because work requires the removal of alley pavement and installation of a temporary water main, there will be no alley access during construction. Weather permitting, all work will now be completed by August 2017.
