Sanitary wastes flow by gravity from each residence, school, and business through a network of pipes referred to as the "sanitary sewer collection system." Like the water distribution system, the collection system is buried below most alley and some street rights-of-way throughout the community. The Infrastructure Maintenance Division staff routinely performs the following services:
Install / repair sanitary sewer service taps (sewer main to property line) for each residential or commercial customer
Repair pipe failures within the collection system
Clear blockages in the collection system
Support the Engineering Division in its design and reconstruction of aging collection infrastructure
To Report a Problem
Residents are encouraged to report any discharge they observe overflowing from a manhole in the pavement or to request assistance with problems they may be experiencing with sanitary backups at their residence by calling the City's 3-1-1 Information Line (24 hrs. a day). Residents can also request assistance by completing an online Service Request form.
Some cell phone users and residents with phone service provided by Voice-Over-Internet programs may have to dial 214-987-5496 to reach the City's 3-1-1 service.
