Community Meeting -- McFarlin Bridge Reconstruction
Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m, a Community Meeting will be held at University Park City Hall (3800 University Blvd.) to provide residents with information related to the reconstruction of the McFarlin Bridge. Construction is set to begin in late July.
Although construction activities will generally be limited to a relatively small area, this project will require the closure of McFarlin, between Golf and Shannon, and that will have a significant impact on traffic flow.
During the July 13 meeting, the contractor will provide details on the project schedule and traffic control. City officials will be on hand too. Before work can begin to widen the bridge, the pond in Williams Park and the portion of Turtle Creek that runs behind City Hall to the Vassar Bridge must be drained. Once the water is drained, crews will remove silt that has collected beneath the surface of the water in both locations.
This project is taking place in conjunction with private improvements that are being made just south of the McFarlin Bridge. The construction of a collapsible dam is included in those improvements. When this reconstruction project is completed in mid-2016, McFarlin Blvd. will not be subject to flooding that has occurred when the banks of Turtle Creek and the pond at Williams Park swelled beyond capacity.
